The PIAA has passed the Coaching Certification Requirement.
All paid and volunteer coaches of a PIAA member school must complete two courses (ASEP Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid Course) no later than June 30, 2018. Coaches hired after July 1, 2016, will have two years from their date of hire to complete this requirement.
**Teachers will Receive Act 48 Credit for Completion
If you have taken a college course that you believe would satisfy either of the Coaching Courses required by the PIAA, you must take the following steps.
- Submit your College Transcript. (*Sports Specific Classes will not apply)
- Along with your transcript attach a Course Description with the Title of the Course you feel would satisfy the requirement.
- The Course and Description will be reviewed by the PIAA. Once reviewed they will provide us with a yes or no regarding exemption for the coaching course requirements.
Course Completion Options
Online Option: All Sports First Aid Classes must currently be completed online. When you are ready to complete the course please make me aware and I will register for you.
Coaching Principles may also currently be taken online, again please make me aware and I will get you access through registration.
Completing the course online is most likely the quicker option pending on your work pace.
Classroom Completion Option: I will be completing the instructor course at a conference at the end of March. Upon completion I will be able to teach the course in a classroom setting. If you choose to attend the classroom option you will need to be in attendance for both dates and pass the test to receive your certification.
ASEP Coaching Principles Classroom Sessions will be offered:
June 20th and 22nd from 9:00a-12:00pm
July 11th and July 13th 5:30p-8:30pm
*Pending on sufficient sign-up numbers
I know this is a lot of information, so please feel free to contact with me any questions or concerns. You can also refer to the PIAA Website under PIAA Coaching Education Requirements
