York Suburban High School Newslink is an 8-to-10 minute student produced newscast which is seen by students on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Students in the Video Communications I course produce the show. Class members are introduced to video journalism. Students learn about video cameras and basic shooting techniques. Class members become familiar with all of the controls of the camera. They practice obtaining footage that demonstrates proper framing and sound quality. Students also learn the basics to become proficient in editing videotape. Knowledge of how to obtain, prepare for and then tape an interview are shown to students. They also learn the basics of writing copy for video and how to read off a teleprompter.

Upon successful completion of Video Communications I, students can enroll in Video Communications II. The second course involves creating packages and shows which will air on the Newslink program. Video Comm II students also investigate trends in video by completing monthly article summaries as well as critiques of the Newslink program.

Video Independent Study is available for students who successfully complete Video Comm I and II. Independent Study students produce monthly shows for the local cable access channel.
