Parent Teacher Organization

Indian Rock is pleased to have an active Parent Teacher Organization. They provide special activities for our students and their families.

In addition, parents chair approximately 20 committees:

After-School Clubs
Committee determines club interest areas, coordinates volunteer instructors, announces club offerings, registers students and monitors progress of various clubs. Clubs can be offered throughout the school year. Also, all parents are encouraged to share their talents by becoming instructors!

American Education Week
Committee provides reception services on parent visitation day and staff appreciation during American Education Week in the fall.

Art Room Parents
Chair coordinates volunteer schedule. Volunteers assist art teacher in hanging art work and changing showcases throughout the school year, as well as helping prepare for the Spring Art Show.

Art Goes to School
Committee organizes and develops art appreciation/education program. Members meet several times to learn about selections and prepare for individual classroom presentations.

Classroom Parents
Co-chairs plan Halloween, December holiday and Valentine parties, as well as the end-of-the-school-year treat. Volunteers help with Halloween or Valentine Day parties in their children's classrooms.

Directory
Chair gathers directory information from families, types, photocopies and binds directory to be distributed in October.

Family Fun Night
Committee plans and organizes a school-wide family night. The volunteers help with planning games and food as well as setting up the event.

Fifth Grade Trip
Chair assists fifth grade teachers in planning and organizing parent chaperone for the fifth grade trip in May.

Fundraising
Chair assists in selection of fundraising activities.

Handbook
Committee types, photocopies and binds handbook to be distributed first day of school.

Holiday Shoppe
Co-chairs order items for December holiday store. Committee helps set up merchandise display and helps students select gifts to purchase.

Hospitality
Committee provides refreshments for general PTO meetings, parent orientation night and other school functions.

Library Parents
Chair coordinates volunteer schedule and provides orientation. Volunteers card and shelve books during library classes and assist librarian with special projects when needed.

Membership
Chair conducts membership drive held in early fall, encouraging all parents to join PTO and collects annual dues.

Nominations
In spring, committee collects names of volunteers, forms slate of PTO officers for following school year and recruits PTO committee chairpersons.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Dinner
Committee provides dinner for faculty during fall conferences.

Programs
Committee assists with activities on days of special assemblies and programs, as needed.

Publicity
Co-chairs photograph various school activities through the year and display photos in school hallway; prepare press releases for local newspapers. 

Rain/Shine Lunch Recess Parents
Chair coordinates/schedules parent volunteers to help at lunch recess. Volunteers have opportunities to play with their own children during lunch recess.

Roadrunner
Chair meets two lunch periods a month with the fifth grade Roadrunner writers and artists, then edits, types, photocopies and distributes monthly newsletter.

School Board Liaison
Attends York Suburban School Board meetings, summarizes relevant information at PTO meetings and presents Indian Rock PTO concerns to the School Board.

School Spirit
Committee publicizes and conducts activities through the school year to promote school spirit. Representative activities include monthly theme days, monthly birthday recognition and treats and Indian Rock T-shirt sale.

School Store
Chair orders merchandise, organize school store and help children make purchases at lunchtime (every six weeks). Volunteers help on school store days.

Senior Guest Day
Committee members greet our senior guests and escort them to classrooms, as well as provide refreshments.

Staff Appreciation Day
Committee honors staff during National Teacher Appreciation Week in early May and prepares and serves a special lunch in faculty room.

Sunshine Committee
Committee arranges delivery of appropriate gifts, cards, sentiments for teachers, staff and other committee members for important events.

Variety Show
Committee plans and organizes spring variety show. Volunteers help with rehearsals and actual production.

Wellness Committee
Committee promotes activities to support the District's Wellness Initiative. Committee organizes activities to increase physical fitness and healthy eating habits at school, home, and in the community.

Writer's Conference
This is an annual afternoon-long program. Each classroom teacher hosts a mixed grade writers' conference group. Chair coordinates scheduling of one PTO committee member per teacher to assist that teacher by attending the workshop, listening to the students read their original selections to the group and serving refreshments.

Yearbook
Committee assembles yearbook throughout the school year utilizing photographs of school activities. Order forms will be sent home during the year and the yearbooks are distributed at the end of the school year.
